Answers to common questions about using Skoot, completing a private vehicle sale, payment, pricing, identity verification, documents and support.
Skoot provides a clear sales contract that includes the vehicle details, agreed price, buyer and seller names and addresses, and any notes added to the transaction. The sales contract is signed electronically during your Skoot transaction. Once the transaction completes, you will receive a completed copy by email and it will also be available in your Skoot account. You can view a sample sales contract [View a sample sales contract].
Skoot also provides a transaction receipt showing what was paid. The receipt is sent by email once a transaction completes and is also available in your Skoot account.

Together, the sales contract and receipt provide proof of the transaction and act as a record of the sale.
Before handover is arranged, the buyer should transfer payment to Skoot and the seller should wait until Skoot confirms the money is with Skoot.
In the meantime, both parties should review the draft sales contract, check the vehicle details, agree when and where handover will take place, and make sure they understand what needs to happen next.
The seller should also have the V5C, keys, service history, receipts and any agreed accessories ready for collection day.
The buyer should be ready to inspect the vehicle, check the paperwork and make sure they are happy before completing the sale.
At handover, Skoot guides the buyer through the final vehicle and paperwork checks.
If both parties are happy to proceed and are satisfied with their checks, they can sign the sales contract electronically through Skoot. The seller signs first, confirming the agreed price and that they will inform the DVLA of the sale. The buyer then signs, confirming they are happy to purchase the vehicle.
Once both parties have signed, the sale is completed, and the buyer can no longer access the funds. The agreed payment is sent by Skoot to the seller, although depending on the seller’s bank, it may not appear instantly.
Both parties receive the sales contract and transaction receipt by email as a record of the sale. The buyer and seller are then prompted to complete the required DVLA keeper-change steps
Yes. Skoot lets both buyer and seller know what DVLA steps they should take as part of handover.
Skoot does not complete the DVLA keeper change on your behalf, but it helps make sure both parties understand what needs to happen with the V5C after the sales contract is signed.
The DVLA step remains separate from the Skoot payment process and is done directly with the DVLA.
Do not complete the transaction if you feel uncomfortable or pressured.
The option to cancel is available at every step of the Skoot process before completion.
If the transaction is cancelled before completion, any money held with Skoot is automatically refunded in full to the buyer.
Once both parties have signed the sales contract and the sale is completed, Skoot cannot reverse the transaction or refund the buyer.
Skoot provides both parties with the signed sales contract and transaction receipt as a record of what was agreed and paid.
If there is a dispute after completion, it is for the buyer and seller to resolve between themselves. The sales contract and receipt can be used as evidence of the transaction.
Skoot is not a party to the sale.
Skoot does not currently provide a finance settlement service.
If finance is outstanding, both buyer and seller should establish the position directly with the finance provider and understand how it will be settled before proceeding. Skoot should not be used as a substitute for those checks or arrangements.
